Karen Peck has significant experience representing both employers and employees in employment-related litigation. She also has many years of experience in commercial litigation.
Ms. Peck has represented employers in cases brought under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, title VII, the Texas Commission on Human Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Fair Labor Standards Act, among others. In addition, she has counseled numerous employers with regard to employment policies and issues relating to employment counseling, disciplinary issues, and employment policies generally. Ms. Peck also represents individuals with employment-related claims of discrimination, defamation, and breach of contract.
In the commercial litigation area, Ms. Peck has a great deal of experience in cases involving high-stakes litigation between data management and software companies. She has represented employers in enforcing covenants not to compete and protecting their trade secrets. She has successfully obtained summary judgment for a major energy company in a dispute with a franchisee, and has represented many businesses and non-profit organizations in business litigation. She also has represented telephone and electric companies in the Texas courts and before the Public Utility Commission of Texas.
Ms. Peck has also undertaken significant pro bono work, including litigation to protect a legal services organization providing civil rights services to the poor from losing its funding, and representation of a Texas death row inmate on his claims that the prosecution improperly failed to disclose exculpatory evidence. Prior to associating with the firm, Ms. Peck practiced in the Dallas and Houston offices of Baker Botts, L.L.P. Previously, she worked as an in-house attorney for Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems in Dallas.
Ms. Peck is also very active in the Houston community, having served as President of the Frostwood Community Improvement Association and as a member of the Pre-K Advisory Board of the Spring Branch Independent School District. She continues to serve on the Board of Directors of the highly–recognized Houston non-profit organization Writers in the Schools, on the Administrative Board of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, and in a variety of leadership capacities on the Board of the Bunker Hill Parent-Teacher Association.
