Joe Sibley served in the 2nd Ranger Battalion in Fort Lewis, Washington. During his time in the Rangers, Joe received Royal Thai Army Airborne wings after parachuting from hot air balloons in Thailand. After his military service, Joe returned to Houston and worked in the elastomer and polymer seals industry before enrolling in the University of Texas at Austin. At the University of Texas, Joe studied philosophy with an emphasis on classical civilization. Joe, who was the first person in his family to attend college, received a B.A. with highest honors and was named a University of Texas College Scholar. Joe went on to graduate from the Harvard Law School.

Upon graduating from law school, Joe joined the Dallas litigation boutique of Bickel & Brewer. Joe returned to Houston in 2006 to add to the talented and aggressive group of attorneys at Ahmad Zavitsanos & Anaipakos. Joe has considerable experience in complex commercial litigation for a young attorney, has conducted hearings before federal judges, and has taken numerous depositions in cases pending in federal court. Among his notable accomplishments and experiences are:

  • Currently serving as co-lead counsel for a corporate defendant in a multi-million dollar copyright action pending in the Southern District of Ohio. The plaintiffs are seeking a significant portion of the defendants' profits arising from alleged infringement of plaintiffs' marketing materials. Trial is currently set for September 2006.
  • After defeating defendants PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP's and FTI Consulting Inc.'s motions for summary judgment, obtained a favorable settlement for a corporate plaintiff. The client, which is one of the world's leading recyclers of stored energy, had brought claims for breach of fiduciary duty and accounting malpractice based on PWC's failure to disclose a conflict of interest.
  • Drafted motion to exclude expert testimony that was pivotal in obtaining favorable settlement for a successful Dallas entrepreneur in a multi-million dollar lawsuit arising from a hedge fund management agreement.
  • Obtained over $25,000.00 in unpaid child support for pro bono client. Notably, the court held the father—who had never paid a single dollar in court-ordered child support—in punitive contempt and sentenced him to six months incarceration.
