AZA Obtains Favorable Verdict in Month-Long Trade Secrets Trial
June 1, 2008

Three months prior to the scheduled trial date, the Firm was retained by A&B Valve and Supply (“A&B”) to act as lead trial counsel in a $30 million “bet the company” trade secret case brought against A&B by National Oilwell Varco (“NOV”). Prior to the Firm being hired, NOV had obtained a temporary injunction against A&B which prohibited A&B from selling to hundreds of its customers, resulting in millions of dollars of losses. The Firm’s succeeded in setting aside that temporary injunction in January 2008. In May 2008, the case proceeded to trial for approximately five weeks. The jury deliberated less than four hours and returned a verdict in favor of A&B on all counts. The trial court subsequently entered judgment in favor of A&B. The case has been featured in The National Law Journal, The Houston Business Journal, The Texas Lawyer and a number of publications overseas. The attorneys involved were John Zavitsanos, Joseph Ahmad, and Debbie Pacholder.
