Seven from Houston’s AZA Law Firm Honored in Texas Super Lawyers

Name partners Ahmad, Zavitsanos, Anaipakos earn Houston Top 100 rankings

HOUSTON – The publishers of Texas Super Lawyers have named seven attorneys from the Houston complex litigation and intellectual property law firm AZA, or AZA, to the 2013 list of the state’s top attorneys.

AZA name partners Joseph Ahmad, John Zavitsanos and Demetrios Anaipakos earned selection to the list of the Top 100 lawyers in Houston, and Mr. Ahmad and Mr. Zavitsanos also were included on the list of the Top 100 in Texas.

In addition to Mr. Ahmad, Mr. Anaipakos and Mr. Zavitsanos, AZA partners Amir Alavi ,Todd Mensing, Sean Gorman and of counsel David E. Warden were named to the Texas Super Lawyers list. Mr. Warden, Mr. Ahmad and Mr. Zavitsanos each have been included on the list every year since it was first published in 2003.

To create the list of distinguished attorneys, Texas Super Lawyers asks attorneys to nominate their peers and a blue-ribbon panel assists with final selections following a thorough review process. Mr. Ahmad primarily handles complex commercial cases and represents executives in litigation, including trade secret and non-compete cases. He is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and a member of the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates. He previously has been recognized as one of the country’s leading attorneys by Chambers USA.

Mr. Zavitsanos has tried more than 75 commercial cases to verdict, including those involving oil and gas, financial services, construction and complex commercial disputes. He has been Board Certified in Civil Trial Law since 1997 by both the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He also is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Mr. Anaipakos represents plaintiffs and defendants in high-stakes complex commercial litigation and intellectual property cases in the U.S. and abroad. He is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and has earned selection to the Texas Super Lawyers list since 2004.

Mr. Alavi represents plaintiffs and defendants in complex commercial litigation throughout the U.S. He is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Before joining AZA, he was the general counsel of a privately-held company with more than 5,000 employees. While there, he managed the company’s mergers and acquisition department and handled several acquisitions of public and private companies.

Mr. Mensing focuses on complex commercial litigation in a variety of areas, including energy, real estate, construction, trade secrets, breach of contract and business tort cases. He is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.

Mr. Gorman provides extensive experience in complex business litigation and arbitration for both plaintiffs and defendants, including cases involving contract, fraud, energy, real estate and intellectual property matters. He is recognized as one of the country’s leading commercial litigators by Chambers USA. He has represented clients based in the U.S., Europe, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.

Mr. Warden is an internationally recognized expert in patents, intellectual property, business litigation and arbitration. Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, Mr. Warden has arbitrated cases under the auspices of the ICC International Court of Arbitration (Paris) and American Arbitration Association (New York).
