Versata Sues Volusion for Patent Infringement in Eastern District of Texas

MARSHALL, Texas – Versata Software Inc. has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against competing software developer Volusion Inc. based on three Versata patents that the company says Volusion is using without permission to produce e-commerce software.

Versata, formerly known as Trilogy Software Inc., filed the claim based on allegations that Volusion is infringing the Versata patents in order to manufacture and sell the Volusion Smart Match Technology product.

The three Versata patents at issue in the lawsuit against Volusion include U.S. Patent No. 6,834,282 B1, issued in 2004 and titled “Logical And Constraint Based Browse Hierarchy With Propagation Features”; No. 6,978,273 B1, issued in 2005 and titled “Rules Based Custom Catalogs Generated From A Central Catalog Database For Multiple Entities”; and No. 7,426,481 B1, issued in 2008 and titled “Method And Apparatus For Sorting Products By Features.”

The patent infringement lawsuit requests an injunction and jury trial. The case is pending in the court of Judge Rodney Gilstrap in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Versata Software Inc., et al. v. Volusion Inc., No. 2:12-cv-00387.
